Jyun-Jie Hu

Jyun-Jie Hu, born in 1983 in Tainan, Taiwan, delved into steel sculpture under the guidance of Mr. Kao Tsan-Hsing at Tunghai University's Fine Arts Department. Pursuing a deeper understanding, he earned an M.A. in Sculpture from the National Taiwan University of the Arts, focusing on steel as his primary medium. Hu believes sculpture, though shaped with physical materials, conveys spiritual perception. Inspired by Chinese landscape painting, he integrates nature, life experience, and emotions into his works through steel overlay welding. Each creation becomes a projection of his existence, aiming to establish a spiritual connection with the viewer.

Love You for Ten Thousand Years

Renowned steel sculptor KAO Tsan-Hsing states, "Taiwan's steel industry begins with shipbreaking in Kaohsiung." Inspired by this, facing Pier-2 Art Center, I envision reconstructing scrap steel into a flying ship—a vessel symbolizing humanity's future and industry. Designed with inspiration from whale fins, it preserves the history of Kaohsiung's steel industry through dismantled and reconstructed metal patterns. This flying ship aims to connect land, ocean, and dreams. As for the phrase "Love you for ten thousand years," I find it impractical. Yet its potency is undeniable when facing beautiful things. So, returning to discuss steel and art once more, I simply want to romantically say, "Love you for ten thousand years."
