Erco Lai

As an industrial designer and maker, Erco Lai is exploring the boundaries between design, technology and materials. His design approach is listening to a matter by hand-on experiments and shaping it in the most "natural" way. Within his practices, Erco Lai attempts to create the beauty of balancing between the control of design in the digital realm and the spontaneity of materials in reality. He is constantly seeking to give materials meaningful forms and create a unique aesthetic language.

The Lava.

This project is a collaboration with a 3D sand printing factory that utilizes innovative technology for direct sand mold printing, enabling the realization of intricate geometric shapes. Drawing inspiration from the imagery of lava furnace slag, the designer incorporated this concept into the design. Through this approach, the project not only showcases the stacking technique of sand printing but also highlights the aesthetic appeal of the novel sand mold material.

The project seamlessly integrates technology and design, presenting a new artistic style while maintaining the precision and innovation inherent in 3D sand printing. Leveraging the imagery of molten lava, the artwork provides a unique visual and tactile experience.
